YOUTH MINISTRY
At Immanuel, we are dedicated to handing down our faith to the next generation. We believe that the transmission of the faith happens in a multitude of ways.
FRIENDSHIP
We believe that building deep friendship between our students as they discover Christ together is essential, and so we host monthly community-building events for students around food and fellowship, and we encourage hangouts outside of church.
Those who study faith transmission tell us that the most important factor in whether teens will embrace the faith as their own is whether their parents practice their faith intentionally, and secondly, whether they have other older Christians relationally invested in them. We equip parents to share their faith with their teens, and our clergy and lay volunteers intentionally build relationships with our teens.
PRAYER
We believe in helping our teens experience the reality and presence of Christ in their lives and be transformed in prayer, and so we teach our teens how to pray, worship, and practice spiritual disciplines. Our teens worship with us and participate in our services in various ways. We have devotional times as part of our monthly events. And through our catechesis program, our teens practice spiritual disciplines and pray together.
TEACHING
We believe in teaching the scriptures and the content of the faith to our teens so that they can distinguish truth from falsehood. Through our catechesis program, our teens walk through the Anglican catechism, To Be a Christian, over the course of two years. In this process, they study scripture and the sacraments of the church, and they learn the meaning of the gospel, the Apostles’ Creed, The Lord’s Prayer, and the Ten Commandments.
