VISIT US

Location and Time

We meet for worship at 4pm each Sunday at Westoak Woods Baptist Church at 2900 Slaughter Ln, Austin, TX 78748.

What to Expect

Anglican worship looks different from church to church. We tend to summarize our tradition as the convergence of “three streams” - catholic, evangelical, and charismatic. You will find all of these streams at Immanuel, but what might stand out to you the most are the catholic elements. Every Sunday you will smell incense and see candles, you will see our clergy dressed in colorful garments called vestments and our lay ministers dressed in white robes. As you participate in the liturgy, you will see people bowing and making the sign of the cross.

If you’re not used to it, these elements of our service can feel a little disorienting. It can be helpful to come for a few Sundays in a row just to get acclimated to a new way of worship!

While our liturgy may seem more formal, we most certainly are not! People mostly dress casually. It’s Austin! Every Sunday after the service, we eat together. On the first and third Sundays, Immanuel provides all the food and we have a directed conversation. It might be a liturgy tour, an interview, an Ask Us Anything, or something else! On the other Sundays, we have a potluck and connect with one another. Although everyone is invited, there is no pressure to stay for the potluck or programming after the service or to bring food if you are a visitor.

Every Sunday we host a nursery for young children, which runs for the entirety of the service. For older children, we have a weekly children’s sermon and a children’s class that happens during the sermon.

Special Considerations

As a church, we desire to be as accessible as possible. We have gluten-free wafers for communion for those with gluten sensitivity. We project the majority of our liturgy on a screen for easy reading. Large print scripture readings and sermon text are available as well. For those with light or sound sensitivity, we have quieter and lower light areas. Our space has an accessible sanctuary, dining area, and bathrooms, as well as handicapped parking with a ramp to the sidewalk. An ASL translator is available if you can let us know about your visit a week in advance. If you have questions related to accessibility or participation, we invite you to get in touch with the head of our accessibility team, Michelle Finch, at finchm02@gmail.com.
