SERVING AT IMMANUEL

Worship at Immanuel is something we share and participate in together and can emerge from the gifts we bring to the community. These are some of the regular opportunities for you to participate in the life of our church and to care for others worshiping with us.

Worship

Acolytes. Acolytes help at the altar as crucifers, book bearers, and table servers. Youth and adults are welcome, and we’ll make sure you have the training and practice you need before you serve.

Chalice bearers. Chalice bearers help serve the cup during Holy Eucharist. Clergy appoint people to this role and provide training beforehand.

Music. If you sing or play an instrument, we’d love to hear from you. The music team rehearses before the service about twice each month. You don’t need to be a professional to join—just willing to learn and serve alongside others.

Altar Guild. The Altar Guild prepares the sanctuary before worship and puts everything away afterward. Members set the table, care for the vessels and linens, and make sure the space is ready for the service.

Weekly setup and teardown. Because we worship in a shared space, we set up before each service and put everything away afterward. This includes moving chairs, setting up tables, and helping restore the space. No experience is needed, and an extra pair of hands is always appreciated.

Ushers and Welcome Team. Ushers and greeters are usually the first people guests and visitors will meet at Immanuel and are key to our hospitality in caring our church. This is a great way to meet people and help everyone feel at home at Immanuel.

Lectors. Lectors read the appointed Scripture passages during worship. If you’re comfortable reading aloud, this is a simple and meaningful way to serve.

Eucharistic Prayer Ministry. During Communion, members of this team pray with people who come forward for prayer. This ministry calls for compassion, discretion, and a willingness to be present with others and requires regular training with our prayer ministry team.

Sound Team. The Sound Team manages the audio equipment during worship to allow everyone to hear and participate. We provide training, so you don’t need previous sound experience. This role is open to youth and adults who are comfortable with technology and can stay attentive throughout the service.

Slide Team. The Slide Team displays the liturgy—including the prayers, readings, and songs—used during our worship services. We provide training, and the role is a good fit for someone who is comfortable with technology and pays attention to detail.

Christian Formation

Children’s Ministry. Our Children’s Ministry needs teachers and helpers who enjoy spending time with kids. Volunteers help with lessons, stories, crafts, and other activities during Sunday worship. Most volunteers serve every six weeks, and training and preparation is provided. All volunteers must complete our regular Safeguarding training.

Youth Ministry. Youth Ministry volunteers spend time with our junior-high and high-school students, lead conversations, and help with events. More than anything, our students need adults who will show up consistently, listen well, and take an interest in their lives. All volunteers must complete our regular Safeguarding training.

Parish Life

Sunday Meal Help. This team helps collect, prepare, serve, and clean up for our weekly Sunday meals. It’s a relaxed, hands-on way to serve and get to know people around a shared meal and is a central part of our community life.
